Steve McQueen’s collection infidelity saved his life in 1969 when he did not attend the dinner that killed Sharon Tate

Steve McQueen is one of the most notable faces and screen presences in Hollywood of all time.

Born María Ruby Neilam Arrastia y Salvador in the capital of the Philippines, Neile Adams came to America in 1948 after three years in a concentration camp in Manila, which was occupied by Japan.

After studying dance in New York and changing her name to Neide Adams – her father’s maiden name – she was cast in 1953 as a dancer in “Kismet” and “Pajama Game”, both Broadway hits in the 1950s.

When she and McQueen met, she told the National Post it was love at first sight. The bond was almost instantaneous so the couple couldn’t wait and decided to tie the knot four months later.

Both had similar backgrounds in relation to family matters. Neither of them knew their fathers and both had distant relationships with their mothers. Adams, however, had healed and processed her past better than her late husband.

Adams revealed that McQueen never really got over his abandonment. The actor was sent to a reformatory by his abusive stepfather at the age of 14.

When they met and soon married, Adams was the star and McQueen was just a struggling actor. Things changed after they got married, and Adams became a home wife and mother. She gave up her career to take care of her two children, Terry and Chad.

He played his first leading role in the low-budget horror film “The Blob”. A couple of other films and the actor’s rapid rise to fame came with the 1960 film “The Magnificent Seven”, in which he attracted all of the main movie star’s attention due to his heavy screen presence.

McQueen also became a Hollywood sensation with the following list of films “The Great Escape (1963)”, “The Thomas Crown Affair” (1968) and “Bullitt” (1968).

With a unique, sexy, and tough personality and a deep, harsh voice on the screens, often with a cigarette dangling from the side of his mouth, McQueen made a splash in Hollywood.

Soon he and Adams became A-listeners, including a 1965 Los Angeles party in honor of Princess Margaret and her husband Lord Snowdon. The couple shared the guest list with none other than Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.

Adams, risked saying the princess might have a crush on him after all, according to her “everyone else did”. She said laughing:

“She didn’t speak to me for the rest of the night, but she did speak to Steve. Did the princess hold a torch for him? I don’t know – probably. “

Speaking of which, McQueen’s astronomical success sparked his unfaithful side. Just four months after his marriage to Adams, the actor began an affair with his “Never Love a Stranger” co-star Lita Milan.

He even bragged about sleeping with several other leading actresses. The problem didn’t stop there, however. McQueen’s drug addiction escalated, and after the incident on the night of 1969, the end was near.

McQueen was supposed to have dinner with friend and hairdresser Jay Sebring at actress Sharon Tate’s home. Instead, “the actor ran into a chickie and decided to go out with her.” Adams told the National Post:

“The journey with this girl saved his life. After that he became more paranoid and didn’t let me go anywhere without a gun. “

Tate, Sebring, and four other friends were brutally murdered that night by Manson’s cult supporters. Adams and McQueen’s marriage ended in 1970 when McQueen flew to France on a film project and told his ex-wife that women “would be coming to see him from all over the world”.

Followed by a jealousy crisis, Hollywood iconic star Adams asked if she had ever been unfaithful to him. She shared their brief affair, but McQueen couldn’t resist the idea of ​​being betrayed.

He took a gun and held it to Adams’ head and asked her to name her lover. McQueen couldn’t stand the idea of ​​betrayal, despite being the one with numerous extramarital affairs.

Adams shared that it is related to his childhood traumas of abandonment:

“He trusted me as much as he could trust anyone else and placed me on such a high pedestal that when I fell I fell with one big blow.”

After the divorce in 1971, McQueen married twice, and ironically, Adams became his mistress. It didn’t take long, even though it “felt comfortable but weird” to Adams. McQueen remarried a week before Adams’ wedding.

McQueen died in November 1980 at the age of 50 before his daughter Terry died early in 1988. The Hollywood star lost the battle against cancer after an allegedly successful operation.

Terry McQueen died at the age of only 38 from complications from a kidney transplant. Adams stated that his death in front of his daughter was a blessing:

“He was absolutely crazy about her and seeing our daughter die would have destroyed him. It almost destroyed me. “

Adam’s second husband, Alvin Toffel, died in March 2005, and the 89-year-old former dancer announced that she had finally dating. She said she didn’t want to marry again because she didn’t want to take care of anyone but her children and grandchildren.

The former Broadway dancer shared that she still thinks about McQueen every day and usually goes to church on his birthday and lights a candle for him.

McQueen is eternal and remains unique in pop culture. He will be remembered and will appear in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” in 2019, played by Damian Lewis. In the film, he can be seen at Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Mansion, where he meets his late friend Tate.

In another scene, McQueen talks about his friendship with Jay Sebring. When asked about McQueen’s status as a “legend” and continued popularity, she is not surprised because he was “the real deal”.
