JABALPUR: Late Tuesday night, a man suspected of infidelity murdered his wife and a neighbor in the Omti area of the city of Jabalpur.
The defendant was arrested on Wednesday and brought to justice.
Those who died were identified as Shakeel, 30, and Rabia, 23, wife of Ibrahim, who all live in Ghantaghar at the city’s Omti Police Station.
According to sources, the 29-year-old defendant Ibrahim, who is from Damoh district and worked as a Labrourer, was married to Rabia seven years ago.
He lived with his wife Rabia in a rented house in Jabalpur.
“He suspected that his wife and neighbor Shakeel had an illegal relationship. In his statement to the police, he said that he had caught her in a compromising position in the past and that he had warned his wife. However, he claimed that they did not end their relationship, ”Satish Jharia told TOI, who is in charge of the Omti Police Station.
He added: “On Tuesday evening, the Defendant Ibrahim returned home drunk. At that time Shakeel was feeding his horse in front of his house. Ibrahim marched up to Shakeel and stabbed him with a sharp-edged weapon. He stabbed him 5-6 times, which resulted in his death. When he heard his screams, his wife Rabia came out and Ibrahim stabbed her too. Both died on the spot, ”he said.
“The defendant has been arrested and posted under the relevant sections of the IPC,” he added.
