A 23-year-old man allegedly killed his five-year-old daughter who his wife suspected of infidelity in the Anand district of Gujarat, police said Thursday.
Anklav Taluka police arrested farmer Shailesh Padhiyar on Wednesday for strangling his daughter in a field near his home in Mujkuva village, police officer PK Sodha said.
Investigations have found that the defendant had frequent arguments with his wife and suspected that his daughter was born from an extramarital affair, he said.
“On January 26, Padhiyar approached the police and claimed that someone had killed his daughter by strangling her,” the officer said.
The police found something wrong and during interrogation the defendant collapsed and admitted the crime, he said.
Padhiyar took the child to a field and strangled him, after which he returned home and looked for her before contacting the police, the officer added.
