A robbery in Vallejo was thwarted by an unintentional mistake by the suspect when he attacked an employee and stole $3,000 from an open safe at a store in the 3600 block of Sonoma Boulevard last Friday, Vallejo police reported.
The robber had fled the scene of his first crime, unaware that a GPS tracking device had been brought with him along with the cash. As he entered another store with unclear intentions likely reminiscent of the previous offense, Vallejo Police Department officers closed in on him. The robber was arrested in the 3500 block of Sonoma Blvd. as he was engaging another unsuspecting employee.
An on-site identification process confirmed the man's connection to the robbery, where officers and witnesses conducted an interior search and confirmed his identity. The suspected robber, now in police custody, was no newbie to the penal system. A routine records check revealed a history of convictions and showed the man was a convicted felon who was currently on probation for similar offenses.
The criminal was sent to the county jail for attempting to expand his illegal portfolio. The police were able to recover the illegal profits and return the stolen money to the injured company.
