Suspicion of infidelity led to murders | Ahmedabad Information

Ahmedabad: Two days after the quadruple murders came to light, CID officers arrested Vinod Marathi from Jhabua on the Gujarat-Madhya Pradesh border in the early hours of Thursday. The trigger for the murders on Saturday evening was his wife’s alleged affair with her boss, he told the police.
According to police, to his surprise, he blindfolded his wife and while she was waiting, he stabbed her to death. The 40-year-old loader rickshaw driver has confessed to killing his wife Sonal, their two children Pragati, 15, and Ganesh, 17, and the woman’s grandmother, Subhadra, 75, police said.
During initial questioning, Vinod told police officers that he learned about his wife’s alleged affair from her son about 18 months ago. Since that day he had planned to kill her, the police officer said.
“On Saturday night he sent his son Ganesh to the store to buy Shrikhand and his daughter to buy Pan Masala. He then told his wife he had a surprise for her before blindfolding her with a dupatta. He then held her from behind, grabbed her mouth and stabbed her multiple times,” the officer said. When his son returned, he saw his mother lying in a pool of blood. “Next, Vinod stabbed his son, and when his daughter came back, he killed her too,” he said.
He then visited his mother-in-law’s house and brought Sonal’s grandmother home. “He took her to the back bathroom and stabbed her there,” the officer said.
Later that night, his mother-in-law, Ambu Marathi, came to see Vinod as Sonal and the grandchildren were not returning their calls. “He cut her throat and didn’t allow her into the house so she wouldn’t find the bodies. He locked her on the porch until Sunday morning and dropped her back home. He even threatened to kill her if she told anyone what happened,” he said. She received primary treatment at Shardaben Hospital and made a missing persons report at Odhav Police Station.
The four bodies were found in a decomposed state in Vinod’s rented house on Tuesday evening. Police formed several teams to track him down and finally arrested him on Thursday.
