Tamia Taylor misses updates – 21-year-old’s friend speaks out after her Tennessee mother disappears during a boat trip in Memphis

A friend tells of the night Tamia disappeared

A friend of Tamia Taylor’s who was with her the night she disappeared has given her version of events.

“There are a lot of rumors going around. A lot of people say me and two of my friends drugged her, we killed her, there are too many rumors going around,” said Kuandera Jenkins.

”[At] 7:30 p.m. we all got dressed and headed to Memphis. Tamia was already drinking. She had a small bottle with her and was already injecting and we were smoking.”

Tamia was seen talking to a man while waiting to board the ship, Jenkins added.

At one point, Jenkins claimed that Tamia had not been seen for more than 15 minutes.

He said: “I went to the first floor there and spoke to Canesha and Shanquila and asked them where is Tamia? They looked and said she was right here. So we all split up and searched the whole boat.” The boat was looking for Tamia.

What to do if someone is missing: what to do?

According to Hopler, Wilms, and Hanna, you need to take the following steps when a person in your life goes missing:

  • File a police report and provide officers with a recent photo
  • Request a “Be On the LookOut” (BOLO) bulletin for publication by law enforcement
  • Ask for an organized search with sniffer dogs
  • Restrict access to your home until the police arrive and collect evidence.
  • Inform investigators of all facts and circumstances surrounding the enforced disappearance and inform law enforcement of what actions have already been taken.
  • Provide law enforcement with a detailed description, including a photo of clothing, personal items, birthmarks, scars, tattoos, and demeanor if appropriate
  • Designate a person to answer the phone at home if you have one. Always have paper handy to take notes and ask the police for a tracer on your home phone.
  • For cases older than 30 days, help officers locate dental and medical records.
  • If you have friends who are tech savvy, ask them to help find the location of the missing person’s cell phone, car GPS, or computer. If there is a pet with a tracking device, try to use that information to find the person.

Possible reasons for a person’s disappearance

The World Population Review published a list of reasons why a person might go missing:

  • Kidnapping (child abduction, ransom, human trafficking, political goals)
  • Enforced disappearances (due to corrupt government officials or criminal activity)
  • Missing in action (during military service or in countries experiencing insurgency or unrest)
  • Voluntary disappearances (youth runaways, avoiding debt, avoiding law enforcement or criminal elements)
  • Involuntary disappearance (dementia or other age-related disabilities, intellectual disability, accident alone and away from home)
