Tarrant County accepts new software to clean voting rollers and remain ahead of the registration challenges

Tarrant County pays for new software to clean up its voter rolls. This could help the elections to keep voters' employees in front of thousands of voter registration challenges, according to the district's election administrator.

In Texas and other states, people can question the voters of other residents. The non -profit organization True based in Houston has controlled mass challenges across the country. The organization has created an app called IV3 with which it makes it easy to compare public records and to provide thousands of challenges at the same time to prevent the vote as “choice manipulation”.

At a meeting on Tuesday, Tarrant County Commissioners approved $ 46,000 for a year access to Skip tracing software, which are often used by debt students.

The software will help identify people who may have died or have moved away in order to keep the local voter rolls up to date.

“This is a way we can check the information about the latest information available,” said Ludwig.

According to Thomson Reuters, a company that offers service, Skip-Tracing has its name because it helps to find people who skipped the city.

The software gives the district a broader spectrum of public records to be consulted, Ludwig explained. His office has already received a report about everyone who died in Tarrant County every month, but that does not include Tarrant County's voters who died elsewhere, he said. The skip tracing software contains this information.

A small group of people in Tarrant County, according to documents, who were received in an application for public records, sent more than 15,000 voter registration challenges from January to August last year. More than half came from one person. One of the challengers told Kera News that she was concerned about fraudulent voters who pretend to be dead people in the rolls – an extremely rare crime, said Politifact.

Officials in Denton County, Collin County and other counties in the USA have flooded similar challenges.

The election officers say that many of the challenges are dependent on outdated information, and most of the registrations have already been checked, Ker News reported last year.

The new Tarrant County software is not necessarily a reaction to the challenges of voter registration, said Ludwig, but it will help his office to reduce the cargo of its employees.

“A by -product that we can be more precise would reduce these challenges, since less is now sitting to challenge,” said Ludwig on Thursday.

Ludwig emphasized that this is not a voter cleaning. People are not only started out of the voter rolls when someone questions their registration. The electoral office sends you an address confirmation in the post office, and if you do not answer, you will be put “on suspense”, said Chris McGinn, Managing Director of Texas Association of County Election Officer, previously Kera News. People with excitement can update their address at the surveys.

At the meeting on Tuesday, the software contract was bundled in a single coordination with several other objects. The democratic district commissioner Alisa Simmons was the only “no”.

Shortly before she agreed, Simmons Ludwig interviewed whether the software was necessary. Ludwig suggested that it could save the district money in the voter registration checks in the long run, but Simmons urged hard numbers.

“How do you know that it will be cost savings? You didn't do any analyzes,” she said. “It's a feeling.”

“It is not a feeling, Commissioner. I mean, we received over 14,000 challenges from the public last year,” said Ludwig.

This year there was no influx of challenges again, said Ludwig on Thursday, but he expects to increase again before the intermediate elections in 2026.
