Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the woman’s ex-husband, Aaron Wright, cut power to the house around 3:14 a.m. before breaking into the house through a rear window and opening fire on his ex-spouse , reported KPRC.

“I heard that he threatened the new boyfriend (his ex-wife) several times,” said the investigators. “I’m sure this was a contentious divorce too, but we’re still looking into it all.”

Investigators said there were ongoing problems between the woman, Wright and his new girlfriend. Officials said the girlfriend was with Wright at the time of the shooting.

The couple had scheduled a hearing on custody of their four children, ages 5 to 12, for later Monday.

Wright’s ex-wife is expected to survive. The children were not injured.
