Ogun State Police Command is currently investigating a 46-year-old Remo North local government employee, Sobola Olatunji, for stabbing his wife to death on suspicion of infidelity.

The suspect was arrested following a complaint from the father of the late Alhaji Ambali Yinusa, who reported at Owode-Egba Division headquarters that his son-in-law Sobola Olatunji had a misunderstanding with his wife Momudat Sobola that resulted in a physical battle between them. He went on to explain that Sobola Olatunji took a knife and stabbed his wife in the back.

Following the report, Owode-Egba DPO Division, CSP Matthew Ediae, dispatched his detectives to the location, where the suspect was immediately arrested and the victim was quickly taken to hospital for treatment. But during the treatment the victim gave up the ghost.

It was learned that suspect Olatunji, who claimed to have married the deceased for 20 years, alleged during interrogation that he suspected that his wife was in an extramarital relationship based on some text messages he saw on her phone.

Olatunji went on to explain that when he challenged his late wife on his suspicions, an argument broke out between them that eventually led to the death of the mother of three. The body of the deceased had been deposited in the morgue of the Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

Ogun State Police spokesman DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the arrest, saying Police Commissioner Cp Edward A. Ajogun ordered the case to be immediately referred to the Murder Division of the State Criminal Police and Intelligence Division for further investigation and prosecution.
