It's the size of a credit card, fits in your wallet, works with Apple's Find My network, and best of all, charges wirelessly so you don't have to worry about batteries or throwing the whole device away after a year of use. Meet the Nomad Tracking Card, a snazzy tracking device that will make you wonder why Apple made something as bulky as the AirTag. At just 2mm thick, it's about the thickness of 2 credit cards combined, making it discreet enough to fit anywhere, be it your wallet, backpack, or even your jacket pocket, and gives you the ability to track your belongings using Apple's global device tracking network.
Designer: Nomad
Anyone who knows me knows how much I think the AirTag needs a redesign. Apple designed the tracking device in 2019 for use with bags and keys, but didn't think about the potential of a card-shaped tracker for wallets and pockets. It's been 5 years since the AirTag first launched, and rumors of an AirTag 2.0 are so rare that it's almost as if Apple has left it up to third-party developers to create better trackers that work with its devices.
That's where Nomad's Tracking Card comes in. It's sleek, compact, and packs an impressive amount of tech into its design. The card has a polycarbonate body known for its durability and shock resistance, and features a GPS tracker, NFC for pairing, a battery that lasts 5 months on a full charge, and a MagSafe compatible wireless charging coil that lets you charge your card when the battery is dead. A graphic on the card shows you where the wireless coil is, so you can just plug the Tracking Card into a MagSafe charger or place it on a wireless charging mat, and it'll start charging. No replaceable batteries, no disposable design, no waste.
Nomad's website doesn't mention having a built-in speaker like you get with the AirTag. The speaker is handy for being able to “hear” where your tracking device is, or alert you if it's stolen or left behind. However, the Tracking Card is IPX7 water and dust resistant and starts at $40.
