The body near Southwest Michigan Creek can be that of the missing person

Van Buren County, Mi – A body near a stream in the village of Mattawan on Friday afternoon can be that of a recently registered person.

The Van Buren County's office announced on Friday, July 25th, who examined the discovery of a deceased person found on the same day in Mattawan.

The discovery takes place a few weeks after the office had a report about missing people with a person from the region, Sheriff Daniel Abbott explained in a press release.

“While the positive identification is still outstanding, we believe that the person who is located is the same person who has been reported missing,” he said. “The original report and the circumstances at this time have not displayed any suspicious activities or a bad game.”

Based on the first results, the incident seems to be isolated and there is no persistent threat to public security, Abbott continued.

Detectives of the Sheriff Office of the Van Buren County are supported in the investigation of the Michigan State Police and the Mattawan Police Department.

The examination remains active and continuous and the three departments work together to collect all relevant information and to determine the complete circumstances in connection with the case.

“Since additional details are available and can be confirmed, we will be updated to the public in good time,” said Abbott. “We appreciate the understanding of the community and ask for persistent patience and respect for the family in this difficult time.”
