The disgraced Kuda Mahachi loses custody of his youngster

Embattled footballer Kudakwashe Mahachi lost custody of his son after his ex-wife challenged Social Services’ detention of the minor, saying they had failed, neglected him or refused to take him to Mpilo Central Hospital for his weekly check-ups .

The suspended Supersport United footballer is accused of assaulting and scalding his son at his home in South Africa but denies any wrongdoing.

Bulawayo Judge Vivian Ndlovu handed the child over to Maritha Ndlovu, Mahachi’s ex-wife, who she said was able to protect the child.

“The minor child was designated by the social welfare office as a child in need of care within the meaning of Section 2 (j) of the Children’s Act.

“The court finds that the probation officer’s report reveals nothing that the mother did that would be detrimental to the interests of the child.

“The parole officer’s report says the child was allegedly injured in the care of Kudakwashe Mahachi, who allegedly assaulted her with a charging cable and scalded her with hot water, the court ruling said.

Officials from the Department of Public Service, Labor and Welfare took the child to give an independent testimony in the criminal case pending against Mahachi.
