The GPS tracking reduces theft, which is again stressed by 20 percent

Burglars, robbers and thieves that were released from prison on electronic tags have committed 20 percent less further crimes, as a study showed.

The criminals were electronically marked in such a way that their movements could be pursued by GPS as part of a crime introduced by the Tories by the Tories.

An assessment of the pilot program, which was launched in 19 police forces, found a little more than a quarter (26 percent) of the burglars, robbers and thieves compared with 33.2 percent of those in a control group that were not marked.

This was a reduction in seven percentage points or in proportion by fifth crimes. After the numbers showed an increase in repetition to 2023.

The study by the Ministry of Justice also showed that there were fewer further crimes per burglar, robber or thieves.

Among those who were marked with an average of 0.69 refofze per criminal compared to 1.04 for the “control” group.

The tags enabled the police to check the movements of the freed criminals against outbreaks and thefts to see if they could be suspicious in crimes.

The 32,000 “closeness”, which the police received in the area of a crime, led to 163 convictions in which the freed burglars, robbers or thieves were associated with a certain crime by their tags.

The police also said they saved them time because they were able to eliminate suspects based on the persecution of their movements.

The estimated Tagging pilot helped the police to carry out around 16,000 unnecessary arrests from adults for over three years.

The Moj said that the removal of suspects at an early stage by GPS -Tagging released the police to concentrate on other suspects and examine more crimes.

However, the Tagging scheme seemed to have no effect on the rate with which the criminals were called back to prison for violating the conditions of their license or repetition.

Almost two thirds (62.6 percent and 62 percent) were called back to prison, regardless of whether they were marked or not.

“We watch every movement”

Lord Timpson, the Prison's Minister, said: “The evidence is clear that marking works and as a constant memory of thieves and burglars, which we observe in every step and know whether they are offended again.

“We increase the use of tagging as part of our plan to tighten the punishment, prevent crimes and make our streets safer.”

The use of electronic tags is to be massively expanded by Labor in order to increase the number of criminals punished in the municipality in order to prevent the prisons from running again in space.

As part of the filling up, which is to be confirmed in the law of law in the next month, criminals are only freed from their sentences a third of the path, while most prison conditions are scrapped under one year.

According to Moj data, almost 20,000 criminals and accused carried an electronic day from June 2025, a record high.

The annual probation budget will be increased by up to £ 700 million by 2028 to mark thousands of other criminals.
