The Justice Department is proposing a 15-day prison sentence for child support defaulters instead of fines

AKIPRESS.COM – The Supreme Court's judicial department proposes to impose a 15-day prison sentence on alimony defaulters instead of fines, the department's director Urmat Kojomberdiev said during a press conference on February 26 in Bishkek.

According to current legislation, a bailiff makes a proposal to law enforcement authorities regarding persons who do not pay their maintenance, and the person is held accountable in the form of a fine.

“If you don’t pay the maintenance, you don’t pay the fine,” he explained the proposed measures.

In 2023, 53,548 enforcement documents for alimony collection were received by 380 bailiffs across the country, he added.
