The missing man remembered: “He was a really loved person.” – Winnipeg

Before Earl Moberg's life celebration, Brenda Moberg asked friends and family for words who described her husband.

Soft. Friendly. Helpful. Loving.

“Many people said kindly,” she said. “That was the word that was repeated again and again.”

More than 100 of Earl Moberg's friends, family members and parishioners gathered on Saturday in the Rowandal Baptist Church to remember him. Earl Moberg was 81 years old and lived with dementia when he disappeared on December 12, 2023 after walking on foot. He was never found, but is suspected.

“It's great to hear other people's memories of my father and really keep him alive,” said Britt Moberg, Earl's daughter. “It was really, really healing to have this time today. I'm so happy that we could do that.”

Brenda felt the same way; She and her “Knight in Shining Armor” celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.

In the later years of his life, Earl Moberg was known for his dementia. The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) held its disappearance in June 2024 after a review that was stimulated by a letter that Britt wrote to the WRHA and the Minister of Health Uzoma Asagwara. A critical incident is an unintentional event that occurs as a result of the provision of health services. The review showed that Earl and his supervisors did not receive health support that are necessary to protect it.

“We cannot change what happened to my father, and everything I can do is try to try to try what I can do to prevent this from happening to someone else,” said Britt.

“When Earl was missing, the first thing I said was the police:” Is there a silver warning that was issued? “And they said yes, but at that time I didn't know that it was only possible for the media,” said Brenda Moberg.

The Mobergs thanked everyone who signed the previous petition and who have been looking for Earl since his disappearance.

“For us, he is our father, our husband, he is our beloved person and there is just so much more than the missing person in North Kildonan,” said Britt. “He was a really beloved person, a father and a teacher, and I hope that he also reminded him for these properties, not only for being missing.”
