The NH invoice would replace the interstate compact on youngster custody points

Legislation is being proposed in the New Hampshire Senate in response to the disappearance of 7-year-old Harmony Montgomery. The bill aims to help keep children safe by updating the Interstate Compact for the Placement of Children, a mechanism that allows states to communicate with each other when children cross state lines over custody issues. The intent of the pact is to provide a process and ongoing monitoring to ensure children are placed in safe and appropriate homes when more than one state is involved. State Senator Sharon Carson, R-Londonderry is the sponsor of the bill, which is an amendment to older legislation that was introduced two years ago on children and out-of-state placements,” Carson said. The bill was voted on by a committee on Wednesday and will next week in the Senate and then in the House of Representatives.

State Sen. Sharon Carson, R-Londonderry, is the sponsor of the bill, which is an amendment to older legislation that was tabled two years ago.

“So this is a step to bring us together around the table so we can have a conversation with other states nationally about children and residency,” Carson said.
