The Oyo Assembly endorses the installation of GPS tracking devices in security patrol vehicles

The Oyo State House of Assembly has advocated for the installation of Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking devices in the patrol vehicles donated to the various security agencies in the state to ensure effective service delivery.

The call was contained in a motion read out in the House of Representatives on Thursday by a member representing Ibadan North West Constituency, Hon. Dawood Olalere, and co-sponsored by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin.

Lawmakers suggested the devices would help monitor the locations and movements of all patrol vehicles, as well as officer safety.

In addition, the House of Representatives stated that there is a need to deploy more patrol vehicles at night, when most crimes are normally committed, and that this will make it more difficult for criminals to get their way.

The motion read in part: “Although security agencies have made commendable efforts to curb crimes and maintain law and order, there is still room for improvement.” The crime rate in Oyo State remains worrisome especially at night. Despite security surveillance, thefts, kidnappings, armed robberies and gang violence occur. Therefore, the state government needs to introduce advanced technologies like GPS.”

Hon. In one of the resolutions, Olalere called on the executive branch of government through the state Ministry of Information and Orientation and the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, BCOS, to raise public awareness on the “615” toll-free line to serve residents around The watch is available to report emergencies.

The motion also urged security agencies to be more proactive in fighting crime by making full use of the tools and equipment at their disposal and also adopting a good maintenance culture to ensure the longevity of all emergency vehicles provided to them by the state government.
