A woman from Abbotsford who has lived in Costa Rica for two years has been missing since August 17 and is being sought to find her.
Jaclyn Smith Ferland, 40, was missing from Cacique Hill between Playa Hermosa and Playa Del Coco after returning home from a physiotherapy appointment.
A Facebook page (“Search for Jaclyn”) dedicated to Search contains interviews and posts from Jaclyn’s two-year-old husband, Sebastien Ferland, who says she was in psychological distress on the day in question, got mad at him and her family left home on foot while he was in the shower.
He said she had left in the past, took her suitcase and drove to a hotel, but usually comes back or contacts him within a few hours.
Jaclyn only went with her passport and wallet, but there has been no trace of her ever since, even if she used her passport or debit and credit cards.
Community searches – which Sebastien was active on – began on August 20 and continued on a regular basis, including beach areas along the coast, mountainsides and by the water. The search parties even combed illegal fire areas and garbage dumps, sifted the soot and broke open every sack.

Sniffer dogs were also used in the couple’s apartment, but they found nothing significant in the house or vehicle.
Security cameras and Jaclyn’s phone were also checked, and no useful information was found on that either, according to the Facebook page.
No cab driver came forward to say they were driving Jaclyn anywhere.
Jaclyn’s parents, Colleen and Gordon, who live in Abbotsford, and their sister Candice are currently in Costa Rica to help with the search.
The police, a private investigator and a volunteer search organization are also involved.
Krista Marshall, an acquaintance of Jaclyn and Sebastien, is a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces who said she took over the soil search because she believed that not enough was being done.
“This case is so incredibly confusing. There were no usable traces … I know from a case last year in which a woman was missing and was found six days later that the area around here is very hostile … But how do we find anything? “Said Marshal.
There were some promising tips – including sandals found in the area and sightings of women who looked like Jaclyn – but none of them worked.
Jaclyn is described as “extremely fit and athletic”, six feet tall, and weighs about 140 pounds. When she disappeared, she was wearing sky blue flip flops, shorts and a blue / teal tank top.
Anyone with information was asked to call 800-800-0645 or 506-8800-0645.
In the meantime, the search will continue.
“Somebody said that comment and it stuck with me, ‘A person doesn’t just vape,'” Marshall said.
