West Peoria, Ill. (WMBD) – In a Facebook post on Monday, the sheriff of Peoria County Chris Watkins unveiled a different method for persecution than vehicles.
In the early Monday morning, a deputy pursued a vehicle and instead of continuing to continue at high speed, the deputy came close enough to relieve a star chase tart onto the vehicle and then withdraw.
“We hope that it increases security. The data show that this is the case, but these suspect, even though we end it 100 miles per hour around Peoria.
The incident occurred at around 2 a.m. when the deputy tried to carry out a traffic stop at a West Peoria petrol station. According to the Dash Camera video from the Facebook post, the driver of the car began and started to flee.
The object that has joined the fleeing car is a GPS dart that is made by the company star chase that enables the MP to pursue the car from a safe distance so that according to the posts they do not have to carry out dangerous high-speed hunting.
Watkins said that the Starchase Darts had just been installed in the past few weeks, and this was the first “successful use” of the new technology.
There is a launcher for the arrow in the patrol car, and if a suspect flees, the MP can fire the darts from the patrol car, said Watkins.
As soon as the arrow was in the car, the MP and shipping could monitor the GPS, and two minutes later the GPS led the officials to the 1400 block of the West Millman Street. The car that was a rent was distracted and the people inside were fled on foot.
“Now everyone can see where this fleeing car is going, what we tactically see an area and hopefully get more arrests,” he said.
The vehicle was run on the street, and a woman who was supposedly inside was found and arrested at the crime scene.
Watkins said the technology was important to prevent both civilians and the safe persecution hunts of the deputy. Although he would not say how many arrows the department had, he said they want to get more from them.
His Facebook post also says that the technology can be used for other things such as escape, stolen vehicles, duis, human trafficking and narcotics.
