Humboldt County, California – – – Unable to find a person who has disappeared and whose status cannot be confirmed as alive or dead can be a scary experience. In Northern California there has been the non-profit Nor-Cal alliance for the missing person since 2013 that offers families of missing support and resources.
The organization also provides statistics from the California Ministry of Justice via missing persons. In 2024, 244 children and 238 adults were reported as founders Trudy Nicks of the NOR CAL alliance for the missing, the importance of sharing these numbers.
“If you bring public awareness, you know that the public is aware that the public understands that we have a considerable number of people who are missing,” said Nickens.
Although these numbers appear alarming, the sheriff of Humboldt County William Honsal indicates that they lose significantly if they take into account the number of people found and localized.
“244 of them were young people, and of these 242 there were only two people who were missing last year,” said Honsal.
The number of adults who are missing in Humboldt County also decreases significantly.
“Of the 238, which were reported last year, 203 of them were found and determined to be removed from the system,” said Honsal.
When asked about similarities that can be found in cases missing, the Honal explains that the causes are usually determined from case to case.
“Most of the time we see the youth reports that are out of control, these children who have problems at home, or they fight with their parents, some of them voluntarily, they know that they decide and they are okay, they just don't want other people where they are,” said Honsal.
If people submit a report about missing person, the Sheriff's office recommends that you provide as much information as possible to find the person faster.
“Name and date of birth, we would also like to have a current photo of you, the clothes that you recently wore, the shoes will be really important,” said Honsal.
