Thembekwayo boarded for ‘infidelity’

Internationally acclaimed motivational speaker Vusi Thembekwayo has been dumped by his wife after his “infidelity” prevented them from continuing their marriage.

Thembekwayo’s wife, Palesa Mahlolo Thembekwayo (née Makhetha), has informed the businessman that she will engage her lawyers to handle the lawsuit
divorce and end their 13-year union. The two walked down the aisle in 2009 and have three children.

But their marriage showed cracks when she filed an assault complaint against him at Douglasdale Police Station in December last year, accusing him of assaulting her during one of their domestic arguments.

The alleged attack occurred on December 4, 10 days after the start of the annual global campaign to end the abuse of women and children. He was arrested and released on bail after appearing in Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

The case was postponed after his lawyers asked for arbitration.

According to a police statement at the time, Thembekwayo arrived at their marriage home in Fourways to find his wife sleeping upstairs.

“He woke her up and told her to pack her bags. She refused and an argument ensued. He pulled her out of bed by the legs, hit her several times, dragged her down the stairs, loaded her bags into the car and forced her into the car.”

The statement went on to say that while driving, Thembekwayo took the road to Midrand, a few kilometers from her home. When they stopped at traffic lights near Crowthorne, Midrand, she jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot.

A police officer who asked not to be named said Thembekwayo had told police he had left South Africa on a business trip to Kenya and was to travel to Dubai, but canceled the trip because of the travel ban on South Africans, according to the Omicron Covid-19 variant.

When he got to their house, he said he found his wife drunk and that annoyed him.

The officer said an argument broke out and Thembekwayo allegedly packed their bags and chased them out of their home. He denied assaulting her and said she had a drug problem.

“Please note, however, that our client wishes to report that his wife had a history of substance abuse, overdosed more than once and was admitted to a support center as a result,” his attorney wrote in a letter.

The news of Thembakwayo being kicked to the curb was revealed by a source close to the couple.

The deep throat said Thembekwayo’s wife has been living in Glen Austin, Midrand, since the alleged attack. The informant said several family reunions were held to repair their marriage but all failed.

“Palesa was hurt by Vusi’s allegations that she had abused drugs. She feels he has irreparably damaged her reputation as a businesswoman and as a mother,” the source said.

The source also said Palesa has complained that he has cheated on her on several occasions and that the adultery has undermined the trust she has in him.

The source said she told him she would ask the court to order him to pay her R50,000 a month alimony for rehabilitation and R20,000 for each of the three children.

Thembekwayo confirmed yesterday that there was trouble in paradise. He said they were working hard to fix their marriage. His wife could not be reached for comment.
