#trending: Woman finds S$421 hidden in thrift retailer purse with word about infidelity and a dying want

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA – A woman in Philadelphia has caused a stir in the social media world with a video describing how she found US$300 (S$421) hidden in a purse she bought at a thrift store in the United States Salvation Army for $6.99, along with an enticing note.

In a video uploaded to video hosting platform TikTok, Frau said Lynora Silverman, who goes by the moniker “marthainfused,” also shares how she found a note with the cash in it, and tells a fascinating story about why the surprise jackpot came about there.

The note from a woman who identifies only as Martha read: “I have three children. They will give my things to goodwill when I die. So I put their legacy in all my favorite things.”

Ms Silverman, 56, believes Martha is still alive and is looking for her.

She said she bought these Carriage bag at the local Salvation Army thrift store, where donated second-hand items are sold to raise money for the charity.

The masseuse showed the stained inside of the bag and said she was just beginning to clean it up when she spotted an envelope filled with it hiding the money under the bottom lining of the bag.

A note on an envelope with the money says the bag was “gifted” to Martha years ago by her husband’s friend, but under rather embarrassing circumstances.

“Actually, I came home early from a visit to my parents’ house in Connecticut. She must have left quickly because she forgot her bag and shoes,” Martha said.

She also said she started using the bag every day and had always wondered if her husband had realized it was his mistress.

Concluding her letter, the mystery woman wrote: “I’m giving it away because my kids don’t want it. So, buy yourself a new bag. With love, Martha”.

The TikTok video has garnered nine million views and 1.9 million likes since it was uploaded on July 8th.
