JEFFERSON CITY — Two people are in custody after an alleged assault occurred during a custody swap in Jefferson City Thursday afternoon.

Jefferson City Police said the attack took place just before 5 p.m. at the 3800 block of Oxford Drive.

A 911 caller said a suspicious woman assaulted another woman during the call. A male suspect also displayed a handgun and threatened to shoot everyone in the house, according to JCPD. The two suspects then fled the house with two small children, police said.

Using witness testimony, officers later located the suspect’s vehicle at Block 800 of Weathered Rock Road and found a handgun in the vehicle.

After a brief pause, police said the two suspects were taken into custody at the Cole County Jail. No identities were given by JCPD.

The man is awaiting formal charges of unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal activity and unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon. The woman awaits a formal charge of third degree assault.

Police said during interviews the woman admitted to having been on Oxford Drive but denied the assault and the man denied being at the scene and had requested a lawyer.
