Update: Missing Tipperary man discovered secure

Thursday at 5:20 p.m – The missing person was found safe and sound.

Well done to all authorities and members of the public involved in this search.

The Irish Coastguard’s Killaloe unit and a Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter were involved in the search for a missing man in Tipperary.

The Coast Guard Volunteer Unit from Killaloe, Co. Clare was tasked Wednesday night and asked to search for 83-year-old Jim Carey, who went missing from his home in Newtown, Co. Tipperary on Wednesday morning. It is believed he was last seen around 8am.

Gardaí also asked Tipperary Civil Protection and Tipperary Search and Rescue for assistance with the search. On Thursday morning, the Search And Rescue Dog Association (SARDA) was tasked with helping with the search.

The Waterford-based Irish Coastguard helicopter Rescue 117 also joined the search today.

Gardaí are also asking for the public’s support in the pursuit of Mr Carey, who is described as 6ft 2in and of slim build. He has gray hair and was wearing a flat cap at the time of his disappearance. Jim was also last spotted in a navy blue jacket, tan pants and dark shoes.
