Weathersfield Police have been investigating the case of a missing person for more than a month, and other than following up on leads, they are not disclosing much about the ongoing investigation.

Weathersfield Police Chief William Daniels, who was contacted this week, refused to answer questions about the steps the department has taken to find evidence of Tonia Bushway’s disappearance.

He said that since the investigation is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to make any further comments. In response to a request earlier this week, he referred a reporter to a press release but did not want to say when it was released.

Bushway was last seen on July 2nd by a friend who, according to a press release, was looking for a lift from their Ascutney Road residence to Springfield, Vt.

“Since then, Tonia has not been seen or heard,” the press release says. “Tonia is supposed to go to Springfield when she couldn’t ride.”

The press release states that anyone with information will be asked to call the Weathersfield Police Department at 802-674-2185.

Daniels also referred a comment on the case to a missing persons flyer prepared at the Vermont Intelligence Center. The flyer, which includes a photo of Bushway, described her as a 49-year-old white woman with long brown hair; Brown eyes; Stands about 5 feet, 3 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds.

The department posted a brief statement on the case on its Facebook page, reported Bushway missing and asked the public for information. This July 23 posting also contained two photos of Bushway.

Some commentators on the post questioned the time lag between the time the post was written and the last time we visited Bushway.

Daniels, who was contacted this week, said people are entitled to their opinions, adding that his department has kept in touch with Bushway’s family regarding the case.

There are also two GoFundMe pages associated with Bushway’s case, including one attempting to raise $ 2,500 in reward money.

“Hello .. we are the family and friends of Tonia Bushway … who have not been seen or heard from her since July 1st. We have to raise money to offer a reward so that she comes home, ”it says on this page.

“She disappeared in Vermont on July 1st. When the family found that she was missing, they went to her home and there were squatters living there, ”the site added. “Your house was ransacked and the property was devastated. After the family and police showed up at the house, they all dispersed and left a mess that needs to be cleared up. “

The site stated that after a month there had been no sign of the bushway and that their daughters, family and friends were concerned.

“Someone knows something,” it said on the page, “maybe he’ll get a reward! We won’t stop looking until she is found. “

The site added, “There are 2 fundraisers, one for reward money and the other for expenses the daughters have due to the destruction of their mother’s house. They need dumpsters for the trash and items to secure and clean the property.

Attempts to reach Bushway’s family members, including through the GoFundMe pages, have not been successful.

A Facebook page was also set up, #Where is Tonia Bushway. According to this site, Bushway was last seen by her family when they dropped them off at their home on July 1st.

“It is not known that she usually travels further than on site. She doesn’t have the resources to be gone that long, ”the post says. “Everyone is worried.”
