Verizon Connect today released its 2025 Annual Fleet Technology Trends Report for Europe, highlighting the growing adoption and benefits of advanced fleet management technologies among European businesses.
The report, produced by ABI Research, draws on insights from 1,318 European fleet managers, executives and other mobile business professionals and highlights the tangible value that fleet tracking technology brings to their operations.
The report shows that 78% of fleets now use GPS tracking technology – a 5% increase from last year – reflecting growing confidence in these solutions. As inflation rates in Europe ease, falling to 2.5% in 2024 and expected to fall to 2.1% in 2025, companies are increasingly using technology to address economic challenges. The survey also identifies the top industries that use fleet management data: construction, general freight, government, services and passenger transportation.
Key findings include:
- High satisfaction and cost savings with GPS fleet tracking. 75 percent of fleets using GPS tracking software found it to be “very” or “extremely” beneficial to fleet management, demonstrating high levels of satisfaction and the impact of the technology on operational capabilities. Meanwhile, a majority of respondents (65%) described GPS tracking as “very” or “extremely” beneficial for reducing fleet costs, underscoring its role in helping companies reduce operational costs and improve profitability.
- Strong ROI and productivity improvements. Companies in the five largest industries reported positive ROI within 12 months of implementing GPS tracking, highlighting the financial benefits and efficiencies the technology offers. Additionally, 67% of respondents cited productivity improvements, positioning fleet tracking as a key differentiator for optimizing resource utilization and improving overall performance.
- Comprehensive cost savings. Fleet tracking technologies, particularly GPS, have proven effective in achieving significant cost savings. Companies report:
- Reduction in fuel consumption by 24%
- 19% fewer accidents
- 19% reduction in labor costs
- Reduce vehicle maintenance costs by 16%
- 20% reduction in insurance costs
- Advantages of intelligent technologies. The introduction of integrated video solutions and other intelligent technologies was also well received:
- 75% reported improved driver safety.
- 70% saw improved protection against false claims.
- 47% reported reduced insurance costs.
- Commitment to sustainability and adoption of electric vehicles. Commitment to sustainability is increasing: 53% of respondents are now integrating electric vehicles into their fleets, up from 43% last year – reflecting a greater focus on environmentally friendly practices. Fleet tracking also plays an important role, helping companies reduce their carbon emissions by 25% and supporting greener, more sustainable operations.
“As fleet management continues to evolve, it is becoming clear that technology is more than just an investment, it is a critical driver of efficiency, safety and sustainability,” said Peter Mitchell, general manager of Verizon Connect.
