“We have a feeling he’s in danger.” Jacksonville, Mexico man missing

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – A Jacksonville local man is missing in Mexico.

Robert Cantrell, 62, was last seen at Cancun International Airport on June 20, according to a law enforcement agency in Mexico.

Shortly after his arrival, his family, in a great panic, called his ex-wife and told him that his belongings had been stolen and that he was trying to return to Jacksonville.

Since that call to his ex-wife, on June 29, Robert’s family came across a disturbing video of him posted on Facebook on June 29.

Robert’s daughter Lauren Cantrell said he traveled to Los Angeles last month and was scheduled to board a June 18 flight to Cancun. He missed that flight, but the US Embassy confirmed to the family that he had arrived in Cancun on June 20.

“We know he made it to Cancun on the 20th. But his flight path doesn’t make any sense at all,” Lauren said.

Robert met with a real estate agent to look at a property in Mexico but never showed up for his appointment.

A video of Robert circulating on Facebook has Lauren concerned for his safety. According to the man who took the video, he is shown getting into an ambulance and was supposed to be taken to the US Embassy.

“He’s not wearing a shirt or shoes as reported in this video,” Lauren said. “He just couldn’t even speak in coherent sentences. And the things he said just weren’t true. His eyes looked crazy. I think there’s something wrong. He also had similar lesions on his body. That’s how it was described in this group.”

Lauren said she filed a missing persons report with the LAPD. She also turned to a private investigator and Texas Equusearch, a nonprofit search and recovery organization, for help.

Kay Harvey, search coordinator at Texas Equusearch, handles Robert’s case.

“At this point we have a feeling he’s in danger and it’s time to go in there, send some soldiers down and try to locate him,” Harvey said.

Harvey said their goal was to find Robert and bring him back to Jacksonville personally.

“We were told he was last seen at the airport and then, you know, we saw some videos that are a little disturbing,” Harvey said. “You know, so we’re not sure which facts are what you know, there’s a lot of different stories and a lot of information.”

Lauren wants this message to reach her father…

“We just love you and we’re really scared. And we just want you to come home. So please find a way to contact us or listen to people if they want to take you to the embassy. Come home safely.”

JSO tells News4JAX that they are not currently involved in the missing person investigation as Robert is missing in LA.
