Although the divorce was finalized more than a decade ago, tension between Britney Spears and Kevin Federline remains strong.
The couple were married from 2004 until their split in 2007, but Federline recently angered Spears fans by sharing video footage of Spears arguing with her sons. It led to Spears slamming Federline on Instagram, celebrities declaring their support for the pop star, and Spears’ attorneys issuing a statement.
Federline recently hinted that her sons Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15, have chosen not to see their mother. Spears is still reportedly paying child support to Federline and her sons, although they are not currently seeing them.
The couple endured a well-documented separation in 2007 that resulted in Federline obtaining a divorce settlement, while the terms of alimony payments were reportedly renegotiated in 2018.
But how much did Spears pay Federline and how much does she continue to pay?
There are multiple and conflicting reports speculating about the divorce settlement and child support that Britney Spears (left, pictured in 2019) has paid Kevin Federline (right, pictured in 2018) since their divorce in 2007.

divorce reports
Spears and Federline became engaged three months after they began dating before marrying on September 18, 2004. Less than three years later, they finalized their divorce settlement on March 29, 2007.
At the time, Federline’s attorney, Michael Sands, said in a statement, “The parties have signed an agreement that represents a global settlement of all matters relating to their marriage and custody.”
During that time, TMZ reported that sources claimed Federline would receive $1.3 million as part of the settlement, but a Reuters source suggested that figure was inaccurate.
The Daily Mail reported that Federline was reportedly entitled to more, but an “airtight pre-nup” recommended by Spears’ attorneys.
Around the time of the divorce, the couple agreed to share custody of their sons, both of whom were less than 2 years old at the time. By October 2007, Spears lost physical custody to Federline, although the reasons, determined by a court ruling, have not been disclosed to the public.

Child support reports
After Spears and Federline divorced and the latter gained custody of their children, Spears reportedly paid Federline $20,000 a month in child support, as well as college tuition, school fees and extracurricular activity funds, according to TMZ.
In 2018, it was widely reported that Federline’s attorneys wanted more child support payments. Page Six reported that Federline wanted $60,000 a month, though Spears and her conservator (then), father, Jamie Spears, refused.
By September of that year, The Daily Mail reported that Spears had agreed to pay more for child support, although the exact amount was not disclosed.
Top British barrister Lucy Williams explains how much a parent should pay an ex-partner for child support, stating that the total amount would only be affected by the needs of Spears’ children and not Federline’s.
“The court will assess the payments a party should make based on the needs of the children at the time they are with that parent and not on the wants or desires of either party.”
Williams, who is also the leader of the Manchester Children team at UK and international law firm Vardags, continued: “[In the UK] an attempt to increase child support in this jurisdiction on the basis of obligations to children of different parents would fail. Britney’s obligations are to her two children and if the court finds that her needs are met and that she could lead relatively comparable lives with either parent, then her obligations extend no further.”
Williamson says Federline’s request for more child support isn’t unusual.
“We see a number of cases where a party is trying to maximize its own financial position by making such a demand,” she said. “Similarly, we can confront a parent who earns better and tries to downplay or evade their responsibilities to their children. You have to be prepared and able to deal with both to get the right outcome for the children who are ultimately at the heart of these disputes.”
If previous reports published by multiple news outlets are to be believed, Federline received over $1 million from Spears in 2007 and has since received tens of thousands of dollars a month from Spears in child support.
Celebrity Net Worth currently estimates Federline’s net worth at $1.5 million.
