When Kamal Haasan’s ex-wife Vani beat him up for claiming alimony funds bankrupted him

The charming actor Kamal Haasan has made us cry, laugh and think with every one of his films. He has undoubtedly proved his versatility with movies like Chachi 420, Ek Duuje Ke Liye, Sadma, Dashavatar, Indian, Pushpak and more. The only thing that still helps him make persistent comebacks is his enduring personality.

Many celebrities have spoken out about Kamal’s impressive nature over the years, but when Vani Ganapathy, a famous dancer and his ex-wife spoke about it, it came as a complete shock to the world. They had met through mutual friends and had worked together on the film Melnaattu Marumagal. With Vani uncomfortable in a live-in relationship, Kamal tied the knot with her in 1978. Their marriage lasted just over a decade, as they called it in 1988.

Kamal Haasan once claimed in an interview in 2015 that his ex-wife Vani left him on the verge of bankruptcy. It was only after his heartbreaking allegations about Vani that she decided to break her silence about their divorce. In an old chat with the Deccan Chronicle in 2015, the dancer said she refrained from speaking out about her and Kamal’s relationship in the media because she considered it a private matter. However, Vani addressed his insulting allegations, calling Kamal a possessed man and had said:

“We’ve been divorced for 28 years, I’ve always refrained from mud fights because it’s a very private matter … but we’ve both moved on now. Why is he acting like a man possessed?”

Vani cleared the air by saying that she finally wanted to open up because she didn’t want people to think that all her wealth and possessions came from the alimony she received from Kamal. She also admitted that child support was involved, but the ugly details of it were not to be made public. she had said:

“He even refused to give me used equipment from our shared apartment. What could I expect from a man like that?”

Also, in the same conversation, Vani slammed Kamal Haasan for saying alimony payments had bankrupted him. She mentioned that his claims were untrue and that his ego was hurt because she walked out of the marriage. she had said:

“In what court in the world has child support been allowed to bankrupt someone? I was totally shocked when I read it. His ego must have been bruised when I left the marriage, but so much has happened since then. He could have said financial crisis and dropped the subject.”

Vani was his wife for 12 years and learned a lot about Kamal’s true personality. In the same interview, she revealed how the actor uses his charm to dodge important questions and get away with simple excuses. In her words:

“He won’t answer a question if he doesn’t want to. Kamal knows better than anyone how to fake a smile and how to gracefully move out of a situation.”

For the unsaved, Kamal entered into a live-in relationship with Gujrati actress Sarika after divorcing Vani. Together they welcomed two beautiful daughters, Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan, both are now Bollywood actresses.
