  • A woman had her ex’s wedding fall through because he had broken the divorce agreement.
  • He had agreed to pay 1.16 crore rupees.
  • After she humiliated him at his wedding, the man slapped her three times for defamation.

A man decided to take another wife without completing his divorce and it turned out to be a really bad idea. In an incident in southwest China’s Sichuan province, a woman appeared at her ex-husband’s wedding ceremony with a banner that read, “I accept concubines on behalf of my husband.”

The woman, surnamed Luo, divorced her former husband Li in 2019. During the divorce, Li had agreed to pay alimony of Rs. 1.16 crore and a monthly allowance of Rs. 58,097 until her remarriage. Meanwhile, Li was given custody of their only daughter.

Despite the agreement, Li defaulted on the compensation payments and married his second marriage. Luo decided to take matters into her own hands after feeling that court interference was not pushing her ex to honor the divorce settlement.

The woman then stormed her ex’s wedding and distributed leaflets to the guests. It read, “Ex-wife congratulates ex-husband on taking on a concubine.” To add even more drama, she hung a banner at the entrance of the wedding venue that read, “Someone loves my husband deeply, and as his legal wife, I am today here to propose marriage on his behalf and to take in concubines.”

Shortly after the chaotic series of events, Li filed three lawsuits for defamation against her ex-wife. He also agreed to pay the compensation in three installments. After the trial, the woman apologized for her behavior on social media.

Internet users had a mixed reaction to the incident. One explained: “The husband obtained custody and paid compensation. So why is there still monthly maintenance?
