INKSTER, MI – A woman has been reunited with her family after she went missing seven years ago, police said.
This is being investigated as a possible case of human trafficking, according to a news release from the Michigan State Police Metro Detroit Post. The victim is now in her thirties.
It started on Monday when investigators received a tip about a missing person, police said. The caller said her stepdaughter, missing since 2017, contacted her from a motel in Inkster where she was being held against her will.
During the investigation, investigators learned that the victim was being held at the Evergreen Motel in Inkster, police said.
Police and detectives arrived at the motel, police said. They could hear a woman screaming and crying from one of the rooms. They forced their way in and rescued the victim.
She was taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation, police said. She was also interviewed by investigators and connected to resources that could help with her recovery.
The woman was eventually reunited with her family, police said.
A search warrant was executed at the motel room, police said. Drugs, cell phones and a firearm were seized. A suspect has been identified. The MSP Trafficking and Abduction Group is investigating whether human trafficking was involved.
