A GWERU woman has been arrested for fatally stabbing her husband after a misunderstanding over a love text message she received from her alleged boyfriend.

It is alleged that Malcolm Maliko, 33, from the Gweru suburb of Ascot, spotted a love message on his wife Ruvimbo Chamunorwa’s phone on Friday, which sparked an argument.

Midlands province police spokesman Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the killing yesterday and said Chamunorwa, who was on the run, was arrested by police in Zvishavane on Monday.

“Police of the Republic of Zimbabwe are investigating a murder in which a 33-year-old man died after severely cutting his ribs after a misunderstanding with his wife,” Mahoko said.

“It is alleged that Maliko was warming up by a fireplace in front of the house in the company of a certain Arthur Kurai when he (Maliko) saw a message on his wife’s phone that was said to be from her boyfriend.”

According to Mahoko, Maliko exchanged harsh words with his wife’s alleged lover over the phone before confronting her about the news.

He said an argument broke out between the couple and around 10:30 a.m. a roommate went to report the domestic dispute to Mtapa Police Station.

“Police were there and found Maliko lying in his room in a pool of blood, but his wife was missing.”
