(WKBN) – With the snow flying this winter, Youngstown residents will be able to see online when the city’s street crews handled their streets.
These snow plow vehicles are now equipped with GPS tracking, which enables the supervisors in the road service to know not only where their vehicles are used, but also when different routes have been processed and how many areas still need to be covered.
In recent years the city has replaced its old, dilapidated fleet of trucks.
ODOT faces labor shortages as it tries to fill plow operator positions before winter
“We bought eight new trucks and invested $ 3 million in equipment for the highway department. So of course we have to give the guys the tools to do their job safely and efficiently, ”said Kevin Flynn, Construction and Landing Supervisor in the Roads Department.
These two trucks arrived last April but had been ordered 18 months earlier.
Delivery was delayed for some of the devices due to a lack of parts.
