Ananya Panday opens up Gehraiyaan’s central theme: ‘I do not assume infidelity is a contemporary subject’

Ananya Panday is currently gearing up for the release of her upcoming romantic drama Gehraiyaan, starring Deepika Padukone and Siddhant Chaturvedi. Speaking of the film’s plot, the trailer depicts a twisted relationship between two couples. With a dash of love triangle and infidelity, Gehraiyaan aims to take viewers into a whirlwind of romance. Now, in a recent interaction with ETimes, Ananya Panday spoke candidly about her thoughts on modern relationships and infidelity.

According to Ananya Panday, infidelity is not a modern issue; instead, it has long existed in our society. The actor explained how people are beginning to acknowledge the issue, and that’s what the creators of Gehraiyaan have tried to do as well. Reportedly for Ananya, infidelity is an absolute deal breaker in a relationship.

She said: “I honestly don’t think it’s a modern issue. I feel like it’s always existed in our society. Maybe we recognize it more now, maybe we talk more about it now. I think it’s a start, a theme that we’re addressing with Gehraiyaan in cinema. In my opinion, our film differs from other films dealing with infidelity because it’s not about finding a soul mate after marriage, but simply watching how four people behave in such a situation. Personally, infidelity is a big deal breaker for me. But I’ve listened to what everyone has said and I think it totally depends on the situation.”

Led by Shakun Batra, Gehraiyaan is co-funded under the banners of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Viacom18 Studios and Jouska Films. As the movie’s release date approaches, the creators are leaving no stone unturned to promote the romantic drama. Also, Gehraiyaan will not be released in cinemas amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, the film will have an OTT premiere on February 11, 2022 on Amazon Prime.
