RAIPUR,

A 26-year-old woman is said to have stoned her husband to death while he slept in Raipur on suspicion of an illicit relationship.

The shocking incident took place on the night of April 17-18 in Sarora Basti, under the borders of the Urla police station, a senior police official said.

“Raipur Urla Police have arrested Enleshwari Dhruve, 26, for allegedly murdering her Madhya Pradesh-born husband Umesh Kumar Dhruve, 30, on suspicion that the latter is having an illegal relationship with another woman. The accused woman stoned Umesh with the house grindstone while he was sleeping,” the officer said.

According to the official, on April 18 Urla police received information about the suspicious death of Umesh, who was staying at a rented house in Sarora Basti, and a team was dispatched there. Based on the preliminary investigation, the police registered an offense under Section 302 (Penalty for Murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and opened an investigation. During the investigation, the police team learned that the couple often had arguments over minor issues, after which Enleshwari was taken into custody for questioning.

Meanwhile, the accused woman told police investigators that Umesh was in an illegal relationship with a woman and they usually spoke on the phone, the officer said, adding that arguments often broke out between the couple when Enleshwari stopped Umesh from to speak to the unidentified woman. On the night of April 17, the couple also got into a heated argument over the same matter, and Enleshwari is said to have stoned Umesh to death in the heat of anger as he slept, the official said.
