Kendrick Lamar is open about his latest album Mr. Morale & The Great Steppers.”
Kendrick has never been one to shy away from vulnerability. So of course it didn’t come as a shock when he revealed some personal moments from his career on the new album. Across the 19 tracks, Kendrick talks about fatherhood, addiction, infidelity and more.
However, one issue that caught the attention of fans was his “lust addiction” and infidelity. In particular, in one song, “Worldwide Steppers,” K. Dot mentions his sexual relationship with a white woman.
“The first time I fucked a white bitch I was 16 at the Palisades and I messed up my grades,” he raps. “Next time I fucked a white bi**h was in Copenhagen / Good Kid, MAAD City Tour, I thrived on the stages.”
In another song, “Mother I Sober,” Kendrick addresses his addiction and cheating on his longtime romantic partner, Whitney Alford.
“Intoxicated, there’s a lustful nature I haven’t mentioned / Insecurities I project, sleeping with other women / Whitney’s pain, the pure soul I know I found her in the kitchen / Asking God, ‘Where have i lost myself ? And can he be forgiven?’” Kendrick knocked.
Later in the track, Kendrick delves deeper into his infidelity and how Alford tried to get him help.
“Break me, she looked into my eyes, ‘Is there an addiction?’/I said ‘no’ but this time I lied, I knew I couldn’t fix it/Pure soul, even in her pain , knowing she looked after me/gave me a number, said she recommended therapy,” he adds.
The song ends with Alford and her daughter giving a brief spoken word interlude.
“You did it. I’m proud of you. You broke a generational curse. Say ‘thank you dad,'” says Alford, before her daughter adds, “Thank you dad. Thank you mom. Thank you brother…Mr. Morale. “
