Weston Woods has been shut all the way down to seek for a lacking man

EMERGENCY crews closed down Worlebury Woods in Weston over the weekend as a massive search ensued.

Search and rescue teams, police and a helicopter assisted in the search for a vulnerable man who went missing on Sunday October 16.

Just after 5am, police became aware of reports of the man last seen in the woods.

Weston RNLI and the Coast Guard also assisted in coastal reconnaissance.

A police drone was also used to locate the man.

The missing person was found hours later around 11.30am after reporting to emergency services.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Search and Rescue said: “The team were contacted by Avon and Somerset Police just after 5am following concerns about a vulnerable missing man in Worlebury Woods.

“Search teams worked their way through the forest while the Maritime and Coastguard Agency searched the coast, the RNLI Weston Lifeboat Station was offshore, a police drone and helicopter then searched from above.

“The missing person called the forest and received the assistance they needed at the scene. The team withdrew at 11:33 a.m..”
