KOLLAM: Kottarakkara police arrested a man Wednesday night for allegedly shooting at his neighbor Mukesh. The defendant, Prime Abhay Alex, allegedly had a relationship with the victim’s wife, Mukesh.
Mukesh, 34, a lawyer from Pulamon village, was shot at by Prime Abhay Alex in Kottarakkara. Police arrested Alex on Thursday morning.
According to the police, the incident happened around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday in front of the suspect’s house. Kottarakkara station house official Prashant VS told TNIE that the victim and the accused had a history of hostilities.
According to him, the victim’s wife and the accused were in an alleged relationship that led to rivalry between the two.
Mukesh, along with his two friends, arrived at defendant Alex’s home at around 9.30pm. Both had a heated argument. Alex then went to his bedroom, returned with an air pistol and shot Mukesh, injuring his shoulder.
Mukesh was first transferred to Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital and later transferred to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.
“Both the victim and the accused were close friends. Later, the accused is said to have started an affair with Mukesh’s wife. On Wednesday evening, Mukesh and his three friends got into an argument with the accused
at the intersection of Kottarakkara town. Later that night, Mukesh and his three friends went to the defendant’s home, which led to the accident,” the police officer said.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the other two who accompanied Mukesh. “The investigation is ongoing. We have yet to identify those who accompanied Mukesh. Once we identify them, we will act accordingly,” the police officer added.
The SHO said the main defendant, Prime Alex, would be brought before the court. The police also confiscated the airgun and shotgun pellets. The defendant was charged under IPC Section 307 (Attempted Murder).
