Dame Emma Thompson has revealed she was “completely blindsided” to the possibility that her husband Sir Kenneth Branagh was having an affair with Helena Bonham Carter.
Branagh’s infidelity ended the couple’s six-year marriage in 1995. Thompson, 63, recalls first meeting on the set of drama series Fortunes of War when she was struck by how “burning with ambition and energy to achieve” Branagh was. His dynamic made him both seductive and difficult to argue with, she told New York Magazine. “Like two lobsters mating, we clawed together,” Thompson said of their courtship.
