Are Taylor Swift’s ‘High Infidelity’ lyrics about Calvin Harris?

Taylor Swift’s DJ ex Calvin Harris wasn’t spared on her Midnights album, it seems. Swift painted a brutal picture of the end of their relationship, hinting that she referenced him “March 29.” April” actually left for another man. Swift and Harris dated for just over a year and had a very public relationship.

On this date: On April 29, 2016, Swift and Harris released the song “This Is What You Came For,” although Swift was credited under a songwriter alias at the time, which later fueled some controversy. As Genius users pointed out, Swift was in New York City that day and was spotted shopping ahead of the Met Gala she would be hosting three days later. At the gala, she was spotted dancing with Tom Hiddleston, who she immediately hooked up with. The night before the Met Gala, Swift was photographed leaving a pre-gala dinner immediately after Hiddleston.

Put your records on and regret me
I bent the truth too far tonight
I danced around, danced around it
High infidelity
Put on your headphones and burn my town
Your picket fence is sharp as a knife
I danced around, danced around it

At the time of Swift and Harris’ split, sources made it clear that Harris was struggling with Swift’s notoriety and larger career — perhaps referring to “your picket fences are sharp as knives.” Harris was, and still is, an accomplished DJ, but not an A-list celebrity like Swift.

A source close to Swift told E! that the singer was disappointed in Harris’ lack of support. “[She] was really disappointed in Calvin and felt like he wasn’t there for her,” the source said. “The relationship didn’t turn out the way she wanted it to. She felt like he wasn’t taking it seriously and standing up for her when she needed him most.”

Another source told the outlet that Harris was “bored” with her. “Adam [Harris’ real name] was bored for a while and was hoping the spark would come back, but it’s not,” the source said. “Friends were even surprised it took so long because of the lack of chemistry.” In an interview with People, a source close to Harris said he didn’t see their relationship “going anywhere.” Meanwhile, a friend of Swift’s said Harris was intimidated by Swift’s success: “[Harris] said on several occasions that he was intimidated by Taylor, which is why he would not attend events honoring her or awards shows unless he was nominated,” the source said, adding, “Taylor is one independent young woman. and she realizes that it takes a very secure man to handle her success.”

Do you really want to know where I was on April 29th?
Do I really need to map the constellations in his eyes?

On April 29, 2016, Swift was in New York City and not with Harris to promote her song “This Is What You Came For,” which was released that day. It could have been an offense that Harris “counted,” though to be fair, Swift wasn’t even known as a songwriter at the time and was set to host the Met Gala three days later.

While it’s unclear exactly when Swift met Hiddleston during the Met Gala weekend (perhaps that night, as Swift lyrically suggests), Harris has finally come forward with his opinion on their romance. Harris posted Instagram comments on June 24, 2016 about Swift going on from him to Hiddleston, where he was somewhat bitter. Regarding his feelings for Hiddleston, Swift’s new boyfriend at the time, Harris wrote, “Not jealous sir, FREE.” Being a man together, and that’s pretty annoying. That would hurt me too. He’s not mean. He deserves to feel free while single and not to be jealous.” He replied, “You’re the only smart one at this point.” The theory that Swift left Harris for Hiddleston can be found in her above texts can only be confirmed.

Dragged my feet straight down the aisle
Lonely in the house
Good money
I would pay if you only knew me
Seemed like the right thing to do at the time

You know there are many different ways to kill the one you love
The slowest way is to never love her enough
Do you really want to know where I was on April 29th?
Do I really have to tell you how he brought me back to life?

Harris was bored with the relationship (“The slowest way is to never love her enough”), as sources said above. People reported that he had finished it. The split “didn’t come as a shock” to Swift, a source said, citing their ongoing issues. “They come from very different worlds. Taylor’s used to being treated a certain way.” One more reason why maybe it didn’t come as a shock to Swift? She had been looking for a way out. In Reputation’s “Getaway Car,” which is believed to be about Hiddleston and the Met Gala, Swift specifically sang about it: “The ties were black, the lies were white / In shades of gray in the candlelight / I wanted to leave him / I needed.” a reason.”
