Beauty infidelity: how spouses preserve procedures secret

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Cosmetic infidelity is becoming more common as patients work to hide their procedures from their significant others.

Whether you’re looking for botox, fillers, a face or permanent makeup, some people have chosen to hide the procedures they have and the cost of them from their spouses.

This practice is commonly referred to as cosmetic infidelity.

“Surprisingly, it’s actually very common. I would say that approximately at least a third of our clientele does not share with others what they do and with their spouses what they spend on these services,” said Jonathan Sigg, Founder of The Laser Lounge Spa.

While there are various ways people hide procedural costs, Sigg says there are a few he sees quite often.

“I call it the botox Publix deal where they basically go to Publix, they know maybe their husband will give them $200 so they can buy their groceries for a week and their grocery bill will be $200 , but there is a $ 25 gift card, a visa gift card. They’re going to walk in with a half-dozen or a dozen $25 gift cards that her husband never recognized because he only saw the $200 balance sheet,” Sigg said.

Another popular method of hiding paycheck information.

“The husband sees that the wife gets a bonus every year and as far as he knows it’s the 15% of her salary, but actually it’s 25%. She keeps that 10% to herself, and that gets her pastimes at the spa year-round,” Sigg said.

Married for 34 years, Heidi Rosen is no stranger to cosmetic infidelity.

“You know, sometimes you just have to… and I joked before… the money. It’s money he doesn’t know about, and it’s something special. Just something for you,” Rosen said.

This “he” money is what Rosen said she uses for her treatments at the Laser Lounge Spa. Money her husband doesn’t know about, or even gift cards.

“I mean I have my own money or cash. You can never find cash. Or money I put away or maybe I got a gift from someone or a gift certificate, you like a visa gift card now or whatever and he doesn’t know because I’m shopping and going to different places than I have to don’t list everything I do,” Rosen said.

While cash, gift cards, and credit cards are the most common methods people use to hide their procedures, there is another form of payment that is growing in popularity.

“It’s very easy to be anonymous with crypto,” said Dr. Norman Rowe, a board-certified plastic surgeon in New York and Florida.

A little over a year ago, Dr. Rowe to accept cryptocurrencies as payment for procedures. Now he sees people using crypto for the purpose of cosmetic infidelity.

“I think that kind of cosmetic infidelity where they didn’t want their significant other to know what they were doing evolved quite nicely from cash or multiple credit cards to cryptocurrencies,” said Dr. Rowe.
