Dominic Monaghan opens up about infidelity in ‘devastating’ Evangeline Lilly cut up

Dominic Monaghan knows what it’s like to feel lost.

The actor opened up about his “devastating” breakup with former “Lost” co-star Evangeline Lilly in his most candid interview yet.

“I think I’ve only really had my heart broken once in my life,” the actor said of his relationship with Lilly during an appearance on Anna Faris’ podcast Unqualified, in an episode released Wednesday.

“I don’t really know how she would explain the narration, but from my point of view it was probably the first time in my life that I was fully involved,” said the ‘Lord of the Rings’ actor, adding two “kids explored.” and Marriage” during their relationship, which took place in the early hours of the morning.

Monaghan explained that Lilly’s alleged infidelity and substance issues likely contributed to their split. HuffPost reached out to a Lilly representative for comment.

“I’ve been so incredibly busy with my substances and my choices,” he said, adding that Lilly is better in moderation. “I think if you drink a lot, your behavior, your choices and your mood are probably up for debate.”

Based on his behavior, Monaghan believes it may have pushed Lilly into being unfaithful during the relationship. He previously tweeted about the claim, writing in 2013, “I don’t date scammers.”

“I think she kind of looked around to see what else might be an option,” he said. “And unfortunately there was a little crossover that got me pretty upset and blew up in my face in a horrible way.”

Monaghan said that not only was it a very public breakup, but someone else had to let him know that Lilly was seeing someone else.

“I had to be told by a third party, ‘You know she’s with this guy’ when we were dating. And I was like, ‘Wait, what?'” Monaghan said, adding that the person was only trying to help when they realized he didn’t have all the facts.

“I mean to say I was devastated was an understatement,” the Radioflash actor shared, adding that he had a turning point a few months after the breakup when he woke up surrounded by pills his kitchen floor.

“I looked at this mess in front of me and thought, ‘That could have been it.’ You could have accidentally taken the wrong cocktail of stuff mixed with alcohol mixed with your heads and that could have been it,” he continued. “You’re not going to die because of this – of course it’s sad and you’re devastated. But you won’t die.”

Lilly was married to former hockey player Murray Hone from 2003-2004 and has two children with longtime partner Norman Kali.

Monaghan told Faris he’s still very hopeful when it comes to love, adding that it’s “the #1 thing I’m most positive about in my life.”
