EC installs GPS tracking system in vehicles used for LS surveys

The Election Commission has decided to install a GPS location tracking system in all vehicles used for election purposes in West Bengal, an official said on Monday, April 8.

A communication in this regard has been sent to election officials, he said.

“The GPS tracking system will be used to monitor the movement of EVMs and other electoral materials from the Distribution/Distribution Center and Receiving Center (DCRC) to the polling station on the day before the elections to ensure that there is no tampering during transportation.” “I will take them to the vault after the election,” the official said.

The poll body has asked the administration to take immediate action if any discrepancies are found besides questioning the drivers of the affected vehicles and the staff in charge of the EVMs, he said.

Meanwhile, the commission on Monday appointed school education department joint secretary Arnab Chatterjee as joint chief election officer in the CEC.

Chatterjee will succeed Rahul Nath, an official order said.

The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections in the state will begin on April 19.
