While Indian filmmakers often shy away from films about infidelity, it’s not that they haven’t touched on or tested the subject. The erotic thriller follows a suburban New York couple and their wife who begins an affair with a stranger. However, the husband soon becomes suspicious. The film stars Richard Gere, Diane Lane and Olivier Martinez.
2. The Girl on the Train – Netflix and SonyLIV
Based on Paula Hawkin’s bestseller of the same name, the film may not just be about the extramarital affair, but more of a thriller. However, the affair forms an important part of the story that is eventually revealed. Rachel, a divorced woman, commutes from the train to work every day and admires a pair of Scott and Megan she sees on her way. However, when Megan suddenly disappears, she is drawn into the investigation. 3. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna – Netflix
One of the directors of Karan Johar, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna is one of the few Bollywood films that deals with an extramarital affair. Although the film did not do well, it was called a film ahead of its time. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Priety Zinta, Abhishek Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan.

The Cantonese-language film is about two neighbors who form a strong bond after suspecting their partners of being involved in extramarital activities. However, they decide to keep their equation platonic and not engage in an affair.
11. Maya Memsaab – Netflix
An intriguing story and quite an experiment in Bollywood, Ketan Mehta’s film is based on the famous 1857 novel Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. Maya is married but bored and wants more from her marriage. She gets involved in various affairs and eventually dies mysteriously, leaving everyone confused.
