A woman died by suicide after reportedly killing her two children after a dispute with her husband in Gatanga Constituency, Murang’a County on Sunday.
Mary Malombe, a resident of Kakuzi village in Ithanga, accused her husband, an officer in the Kenyan Armed Forces stationed on the coast, of cheating on her.
Ithanga Subdistrict Police Commander John Ogolla said a suicide note they found at the scene suggested the 29-year-old had committed suicide after poisoning her two children. She was upset by her husband’s alleged involvement in extramarital affairs.

A neighbour, Ms Mary Mueni, called on the government to invest in mental health and said some of the homicides and suicides reported in the country were linked to mental health issues.
“She looked disturbed and often argued with her husband, but no one thought it would end so tragically,” Mueni said.
The incident came just a week after a Nancy Munjiru from Kianderi village in Kahuro Subdistrict reportedly stabbed her two children with a knife, killing one on the spot. The other is admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital.
