Inquiry Finds Alleged Infidelity of Lead Defendant’s Wife as Cause of Changanssery’s Murder

Days after police recovered a person’s body from under the concrete floor of a house near Changanassery, the investigation pointed to an alleged relationship between the lead suspect’s wife and the victim who sparked the murder.

Officials said here on Monday that the main defendant, Muthu Kumar, picked up a dispute with his wife, who is employed abroad, a few days ago over the matter. The accused became suspicious of his wife after she asked him to hand over £5,000 to victim Binumon.

Unconvinced by her explanations, Muthukumar invited the victim to his home for a drinking session and asked him to clarify. The ensuing exchange of words between the two soon escalated into a fistfight and the accused, aided by two of his friends, soon overpowered Binumon and beat him black and blue.

When the trio found Bindumon dead, the trio dug a pit at Muthukumar’s house to bury the body and later built a concrete floor over the pit to hide the evidence. The search for the remaining two defendants in the case is ongoing.

Meanwhile, police were due to bring Muthukumar before the First Class Judicial Court here on Monday. A separate petition requesting his custody for a detailed interrogation will be filed soon, police officials said.
