Kendrick Lamar opens up on infidelity and ‘lust’ habit to ‘Mr. Morale & The Nice Steppers

Kendrick Lamar takes a vulnerable approach on his latest album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. Of course, the Compton-raised rapper is recognized and valued for using his vivid lyrics to portray his own life and tell stories that would otherwise be untold, and the two-part release will privy fans to his latest ups and downs. Across 19 tracks, including interludes, Kendrick Lamar explores themes of fatherhood, addiction, infidelity and more.

One aspect of his admission includes his admitting to having sexual relations with white women, an activity he doesn’t seem overly proud of.

“The first time I fucked a white bitch I was sixteen at the Palisades and I messed up my grades,” he raps on “Worldwide Steppers.” He later adds in the same verse, “Next time I fucked a white bi**h was in Copenhagen / Good Kid, MAAD City Tour, I thrived on the stages,” continuing to confront his motives and the impact on his longtime romantic partner Whitney Alford.

The theme of lust is not lost in the further course of the album. Kendrick Lamar expands on his aforementioned “lust addiction” and betrayal of the mother of his two children on the raucous “Mother I Sober,” starring Portishead’s Beth Gibbons.

“Intoxicated, there’s a lustful nature I haven’t mentioned / Insecurities I project, sleeping with other women / Whitney’s pain, the pure soul I know I found her in the kitchen / Asking God, ‘Where have i lost myself ? And can it be forgiven?’” he raps on the song, describing how the relationship almost ended.

Alford and the couple’s two children appear on the album’s cover with the Grammy-winning rapper. Additionally, the full album features Blxst, Amand Reifer, Sampha, Taylour Paige, Summer Walker, Ghostface Killah, Kodak Black, Baby Keem, Sam Dew and Tanna Leone.
