‘In 2014, [while] at Newcastle Knights was definitely a tough year. I’m definitely not feeling good at this time in my life. There were many things I would change and do differently.
“It was just hurting people and letting people down. My mother, my grandmother, my wife Kayla.”
He added: “I was unfaithful.”
Darius then said that Kayla made a “good decision” leaving him after his infidelity before the two reunited and continued their relationship.
Still going strong: Darius and his wife Kayla (pictured) managed to work out their issues and are still happily married with three children
“It’s something I’m not proud of, but something that had to happen to get us where we are today,” he said of her decision to briefly end the marriage.
Darius then recalled asking for help as he was struggling so badly with his mental health at the time.
“One day I went home, I had nothing and looked around my house. There’s no woman sitting there, nothing in the house, no family, no friends,” he told the director’s staff (DS).
“I was looking at old photos and I saw this happy, smiling kid who used to play football with his buddies. until about 27, [and] not much to show for my life, I thought.
“I needed change, I needed to get better and I wanted to grow.”

“I didn’t know what kind of help I needed, but I didn’t want to feel the way I was feeling,” he said. “He took me to see a nurse in a psychiatric facility”
He added that at his “rock bottom” he made the decision to call his football manager to tell him he needed help.
“I didn’t know what kind of help I needed, but I didn’t want to feel the way I was feeling,” he said. “He took me to see a nurse in a psychiatric facility.
“I remember hanging up the phone afterwards and crying. It was just an instant relief that I had organized something to improve myself and live a happier, healthier life.’
He said rebuilding his relationship was a “challenge,” but added, “It definitely took time for me and Kayla, but we’re in such a really good place now after some of the hardships we’ve been through.
“I’m really happy to be in this space and to be able to bring our daughters into a really loving environment.”

The happy couple’s marriage is now stronger than ever as the couple have three daughters together; Willow, six, Romi Yves, two, and Gia, 11 months.
Darius met Kayla at a nightclub when she was just 22, and the couple married in 2012.
In 2020, Kayla revealed how she managed to cope with her husband’s infidelity in 2014 during a candid Instagram Q&A.
One fan asked Kayla if she was still haunted by what happened, prompting her to reply, “Definitely not.”
‘If it were, I wouldn’t be with him. There’s no point in being with someone if you can’t forgive, heal and move on,” she continued.

“We were 22 when we met, so we didn’t have all the answers — we had to study on the side.”
