S’pore influencer Rachel Wong is suing lady over infidelity claims compelled to launch diary entries and correspondence

Olivia Wu Gains Access to Materials to Support Rachel Wong’s Cheating Allegations in a Defamation Lawsuit

Singapore is no stranger to influencer drama. But it’s not every day that we see these social media wars escalating into full-blown lawsuits.

Back in December 2020, a woman named Olivia Wu accused local influencer Rachel Wong of infidelity in a series of Instagram Stories titled “Cheater of 2020.”

Wong took Wu to court for defamation, claiming that these allegations tarnished her reputation.

In the recent development of the case, Wong was asked to turn over her diary entries and correspondence with two men to Wu.

Wong is now appealing again to the Supreme Court to block Wu’s access.

Rachel Wong filed for the marriage annulment after four months

Rachel Wong, 27, is a Singaporean influencer with over 42,000 followers on Instagram.

She first met national soccer player Anders Aplin when they were students and members of the diving club at the National Technological University (NTU).

After a diving trip to Tioman, they became closer and started dating.

Years later, the couple had a fairytale beach wedding at Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa in December 2019.

But her happy ending was not to be.

Four months after the wedding, in April 2020, the couple filed for their marriage to be annulled.

According to Lawnet, Wong and Aplin’s marriage was legally annulled in March 2021.

Olivia Wu accuses Rachel Wong of infidelity

In December 2020, in the midst of the annulment proceedings, a woman named Olivia Wu shared a series of Instagram Stories titled “Cheater of 2020.”

Her posts claimed that Wong had been unfaithful to Aplin.

Wong said these allegations damaged her reputation and esteem. She then decided to sue Wu for defamation, AsiaOne reports.

It’s unclear how Wu is related to Wong or Aplin.

In February, an assistant state court registrar called Wu’s allegations against Wong “particularly damaging” since she is a full-time social media influencer. Therefore, their reputation and image are crucial to closing business deals.

Anders Aplin’s current partner promises not to cheat on him

Following the annulment, Aplin’s current partner Desiree took to Instagram to deliver what appeared to be a thinly-veiled jab at Wong.

In what she listed as a series of promises to Aplin, Desiree implied that Wong did things like “having sex with [her] Fitness trainer” or “Sneak Men back to [their] A house”.

She also claimed Wong married Aplin after developing feelings for another man and spending her wedding night in her wedding presenter’s room.

The Instagram stories remain in their highlights.

Courts grant Olivia Wu access to correspondence and diary entries

To back up her damning claims, Wu requested access to correspondence between Wong and two men – her fitness trainer, known only as Mr. Han, and a Mr. Wan, who was the emcee at her wedding to Aplin.

Wu also asked about Wong’s diary entries about Mr. Wan.

Wong’s attorney, of course, objected, calling Wu’s actions a “fishing expedition” that would violate his client’s privacy and confidentiality.

Unfortunately for Wong, Assistant Registrar Lewis Tan disagreed.

Registrar Tan called the materials “clearly relevant” as they would help determine whether the claims made by either party are true or false.

Only relevant documents from specific periods are shared with Wu:

  • Correspondence between Wong and Mr. Han from June 2016 to June 2020
  • Correspondence between Wong and Mr. Wan from June 2018 to June 2020
  • Wong’s diary entries with Mr. Wan from June 2018 to June 2020

Wong’s lawyer told The Straits Times (ST) that they were “disappointed with the decision” but “trust and respect the outcome”.

She has filed another appeal in another bid to prevent Wu from accessing the materials.

Hope both parties can solve problems amicably

The allegations made against Wong are damning and can greatly damage her career as an influencer.

Hopefully, examining the documents will help uncover the truth once and for all.

Only then can both parties, rightly or wrongly, finally get on with their lives and, if necessary, reflect on their mistakes.
