SURAT: A textile merchant, who suspected her of having an extramarital affair, brutally murdered his wife by slitting her throat and stabbing her with knives several times in the Dindoli area on Tuesday.
Ms. Hansaba died instantly and police arrested the accused Surubha Zala, a resident of Vrundavan Residence. Zala wanted his wife to confess to the affair, but she repeatedly denied it, police said.
Police nabbed Zala from Athwa Lines while he was seeking legal aid after his wife’s murder. He was booked for the murder and the complaint was filed by his 19-year-old son.
On Tuesday morning he came home and started crying that nobody helped him. He asked his son to get some snacks from outside, said he was hungry and gave him money. After a while, when his 16-year-old daughter wanted to take a bath, Zala went to the bedroom where Hansaba was. He locked the room from the inside and started stabbing her.
Her daughter heard her mother’s cries for help, but to no avail. After her son came home, he was given another key and opened the door.
Zala had escaped out the window. The defendant later drove his mini SUV to the gas station and then went in search of a lawyer.
Zala had developed violent arguments with his wife over the past three months and even attacked her with a sword on April 12. After the attack, he kept away from the family.
“We saved the woman’s life on April 12, but this time Zala deceived his children. His son looked up my number on the internet and called me when Zala attacked the woman with a sword and the police arrived in time,” said ML Salunke, police inspector at Dindoli police station.
Zala stole her cell phone three months ago and found old pictures.
He found her photos with a man and has since urged his wife to confess to the relationship, which she denied.
